need help. starting to rebuild 292(272?)
Ok, i know NOTHING about motors. I cant even talk about them with looking like an idiot.(the damn chevy ad is playing right now as i am writing this post)anyway, i am not even sure the motor i have is a 292, but rather a 272, because it came out of a 56 3 ton truck. Anyway, I know it needs to be overhauled, rebuilt, restored, what ever you want to call it. I took off the valve cover last night, and i knew right away i was over my head in this motor rebuilding "thing". Anyway, i have no money(that is what happens when your 15 and restring a truck, lol) to have this motor professionally rebuilt, and i want to risk the chance of some how ruining the motor myself. I might have to put the inline-6 out of my parts truck into my 59 until i can get the motor running, because for some strange reason, the inline-6(out of a 60 f100) has the two exact same motor mounts as this y block. anyway, any starters or advise or offers to rebuild the motor for free are always welcome.
you guys are the greatest.

56 trucks had 272, 292 came 58 or 59.
Best thing when You start to rebuild Your engine is buy "Ford Y Block Engine Book (How To Repair and Rebuild)" which is for sale in online store here also. There is few mistakes in book, for example timing chain picture. When You dissassemle it check out how it is. You can take also lots of pictures to be sure you can get parts back right way. If You have to bore the cylinders You can bore them to standard 292 dimensions and find good used 292 std pistons and new rings. Might save some money that way. It is not very hard to rebeuild engine. My first rebuilt engine was 292 Y-Block 15 years ago.
Just keep things clean and organized You get it done. There are some do's and don't in www.ford-y-block.com .
The inline6 can be put there but You need to change transmission also. Front mount is in different place because 6 is longer than Y8.
You can see some of my stuff in www.dlc.fi/~teros .
