Tranny Temp Gauge install

I am going to install an AutoMeter transmission gauge tommorrow morning. I have read that there is 2 different length sensors. The one that came with the gauge is Autometer part number # V8976 and the other number on the sensor is -27. Will this fit in the the drivers side transmission sending port? I pulled up some stuff from a web site that said the long sensor is part # 2259 and the the short sensor is # 2258. Another option was to use a short 1/8" extension. One more question, do we need to jack the truck up a bit to change the angle so thetranny oil is away from the plug removal and the sensor install? Thank you in advance for your input!

no need to jack it up. you may lose 2 thimbles full. no biggie. just put your finger over the hole, that's what I did. not sure on your other questions.

I just installed my new autometer P/N 2640 Z-Series temp gauge. I used the recommended test port but i only had one length sender (short). Hardly any oil came out.

I am only getting a reading of 150 deg which i think is to low, so i wonder if a longer sender would be better if it fits.

My normal driving temp (autometer) also reads 150-155 and when hauling two quads on a deck I see 170-180 and then add the 24ft holiday trailor and it still reads 170-180 and my truck has a 6.5" lift running 35" tires, so I would of thought that I would have seen higher temps on average but do not.
