need help figuring out what part this is

ok i am looking at a part off a 99 250 with the 5.4. on the drivers side of the motor i have a metal tube going from the exhaust manifold to somewhere around the intake (maybe egr). well there are small rubber hoses hooked up to that metal tube that go to a module of some sort and it has an electrical connection. I am trying to figure out what this part is, because the electrical connecter was mysteriously disconnected and i would love to know what this controls...thank you for any help, if you need more description i will do so. thanks

The item you are talking about is called a dpfe sensor it moniters amount of egr flow.

You should have had an check eng light on big time..

ok, i definitely have a check engine light and it says p1401 which is emmision leak (large). i am guessing this is all because of this electrical connection being disconnected, so i disconnected the battery to reset the ecu and we will see if that was the culprit. thank you for the help guys, this sight rocks.
