4.9 to 5.8 swap

hey guys. I have a complete 91 f150 4wd truck I'm taking the 5.8 out of. it has the e4od trans. I'm putting it into my 92 f-150 which has the 4.9 with a mazda 5 speed 2wd. I can convert the wiring harness and replace the computer with a standard trans computer. but I don't know if the mazda trans will bolt directly to the 351 and what flywheel and clutch do I need. I'm a mechanic for a living so I can do anything. I also have access to a full machine shop for any modifications. any help would be appreciated. I want to make this swap as easy as possibly with no snags becuase I need to drive this truck before and after the swap.

The ZF was used behind the 351, but the Mazda box will hold if you take it easy and don't tow or max out loads or slide your foot off the clutch...

On the Mazda, find the metal plugs for the top so it doesn't leak on you.

It should bolt right up, as from what I gather here, the ZF and M5 are interchangable when swapping. As for the clutch and flywheel, due to balance issues, try to find a flywheel for your specifc year. Check the splines to match the disc and you should be ok...

Would I be able to get a flywheel for a 351 and drill it for the mazda clutch assembly.

You shouldn't have to drill it. You "should" be able to use a 351 clutch with the 300 or 302 disc, maybe even the 351 disc if the splines are the same. The issue then is compatibility with the slave cylinder/throwout bearing set up in the Mazda bell. Since the ZF uses a similar design, it might even be the same parts. (interchangeability between engines/trans in a Ford? could it be???) And even if it ain't, it might work. And even if it don't, you're a mechanic, and if rivers and mountains can be crossed, certainly a man-made obstacle like a throwout bearing can be taken...(by your own admission, you can do anything & I bet you can in this case)

You've got a little traffic here, maybe some better or "for sure" posts will pop up.

I tried to cross clutch assembly part numbers and found they were different from the 300 and the 351. the 300 is a 10 inch clutch and the 351 is an eleven inch clutch. Both have the same spline size and teeth count 10t x 1 1/16". Does the 351 clutch assembly fit in the mazda bellhousing with plenty of clearance? Does the 300 flywheel bolt up to the 351 crank?

Part of the answer here, no on the flywheel exchange.

Don't know about the clutch in bell question, stay tuned.
