What kind of Carb is everyone using and how do you like it ?

Hi all.
Have a 292 engine that I am in the process of putting in my 63 F100.
Engine came with no Carb. Person I got it from had a edelebrock 600 CFM universal 4bbl (pep boys) type carb on it and said it ran good.
Would like to know what everyone else is using and how it works for you ? Even if the carb your using is stock I would like to know a part/ model number or something so I can try to locate one or something similiar. The 292 is getting Reds headers which I have and dual exhaust which I will piece together. I have read on here about various experiences with exhaust diversion valve which was located in the original exhaust. Will there be a problem since this valve will not be in the truck exhaust ? It has been written on here that with out the valve or if the valve stuck open that these engines ran poorly. The 292 has the original 4bbl manifold on it where when diverted some of the exhaust passes under the carb.

Thank you for the help.
