500 miles and 7000lbs?

Does anyone think it would be a problem, or hinder proper engine break in, to pull a 7000lb boat approximately 125 miles up to the Lake next weekend if I only will have 500 miles on the new truck?

Who reads a manual? I trust what the guys on here say a lot more than my Ford engine manual.

i towed my 9500 lbs fifth wheel after my first 500 miles. I took delivery of the truck june 28, 2007 and towed my fifth wheel july 6, 2007 for the first time. I now only have 3300 miles on it almost a year later.

I'd do it, just go a little slower and vary your speed.

Read the diesel break-in in the tech folder -- pretty good info on what happens during break-in of our engines. I'd at least do the ring break-in that the article spells out how to do (it seems harsh, but it isn't all that bad). I'd change the oil before the trip too (but some say I'm AR...).

Good luck with the trip!

I had 500 miles on my truck. Hooked up to my 20000lb 5th wheel. Head north for Alaska. The truck's first 10000 miles was put on hauling the 5'vr up north and back. Had not issues with it. I now have 30K on it. Still running strong with no motor issues.

IMO the best way and fastest way to break in is to tow or use the truck the way you are going to use it. At 15 miles on my truck i pulled a 30' trailer with the GCVW of 40'000 pounds 90% of the miles on my truck are towing at that weight and I now have 25'000 on her.
