4.6 interchange question...

I have a customer's truck here with a bad engine.. It's a 2000 F150 4X4 4.6L "W" engine.. I've called around to a few salvage yards and found a few mid-high mileage engines for WAY too much $$.. They said the only ones that will work are like 99-01, 4X4 only... I find that very hard to believe...

My question... What other 4.6L vehicles can I use the engine (block+heads) out of? I have no problem swapping parts over... Can I use any "W" motor or does it specifically have to be one from a 2 year range of an F150/expedition?

I ran into a problem finding a 3.0 (vin U) for a 2003 Taurus... Same issue, junkyard says only 2001-2003... I ended up using a 3.0 from an 89 taurus.. Bolted RIGHT in.. no issues whatsoever, just swapped over the intake and exhaust manifolds because they were different..

i think all the 99-03 4.6 windsor motors should work in that truck
