Water in Fuel Light....

Yup, it's come on twice in the past 10 days or so.

It seems to come on when I'm driving along....you know how it is...everything is fine and the next time you glance at the speedo that orange light catches your eye and the pucker factor goes waaaaay the heck up.

So now it's got my undivided attention....it stays lit for several more glances at the speedo and then it's off. So my first thought is to pay attention to it expecially the next time I start it up....but it doesn't light back up (the initial key turn where everything lights up doesn't count).

So I'm feeling a little better each time I drive it and it doesn't light up again.

Then 4 or 5 days later....BAM! It lights up again....just like the last time. Only for a minute or 7 and then it goes out again.

I'm up to 68K on the truck and I have yet to replace fuel filters. I'm always careful to buy fuel from places with high volume/turnover to help make sure I'm puttin in good fuel. I still use DK at every fillup. Whadda youse guyz think? What's it tryin' to tell me?

Joe

It is probably best to go ahead and drain the HFCM and change out the fuel filters. This will get rid of any water and will keep your fuel injectors happy.

Changing out the filters is easy enough. The replacement procedure is covered in the tech notes in this forum.

If you havn't changed fuel filters in 68,000 miles you are treading on thin ice and should be in Vegas. Get those filters changed ASAP and drain the FICM. If you are lucky which apparently you are, you haven't damaged any injectors.

Dude... I am so sorry. But I gotta say it. Spell check?

OP- just drain the filter when the light pops on. Maybe dump in a bottle of Power Service or something similar at the next fill up if you don't already use it and you're good to go. And yeah... 68k on the filters is a no bueno

Don'y buy an additive w/ alcohol (and I believe isoheat contains alcohol).

Changing filters is critical to ensure fuel pressures over 45 psig. Otherwise injectors get damaged over time as 69cj has said. Also, with high back pressure (clogged filters) they can fail and pass water and contaminants.

If you darin much fuel from the system, use the "key on" procedure described in your manual before start-up.

If the problem persists, it could be corrosion in your HFCM and, if so, you will need to change out the cover plate at least.
