My first Blackstone report

D39741 This doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy. The additive I refer to is HSS. Every time I click on it Adobe freezes my computer up. Maybe somebody could post it for me? Thanks, Tim

Tim, You don't need to click on the link.

When they send me mine, there's a link but since I don't have a un/pw, it doesn't help. In that e-mail I scroll down and there's the whole report.

I can't open their pdf files in my e-mail either. I have to go to Blackstones web site and log it to get it.

Oz, I e-mailed it to you. Thanks for your help. The iron and alum. worries me. Maybe because I only run the truck 1-2 times a week it could be a pretty dry start? The other levels that are high- maybe due to the HSS as they seem to be detergents and lubricants. Anxiously ( nervously) awaiting replies. BTW is there a quick way for me to learn how to post this report? Joe, there wasn't on mine, I had 2 links I was able to click on that showed me the report.

I did a screen capture of the part you want the world to see> saved it as a .JPG> uploaded it as an attachment to FTE.

OK, I'm gonna have to learn that one, thanks for putting it up here for me. Now, as far as the report, I'm not panicking but with Iron levels as high as they are, should I? Aluminum and chromium are higher than they should be, but not like the Iron. Guess I'll run it more and see what the next report shows, and go from there?

D8,

Keep us posted. I just did an oil change about 500 miles or so ago and added 1 qt. of HSS as a PM. In Chris' post thats what it said to do...1 qt. every 3 oil changes. I havent done a Black Stone test yet as it is the first oil change since I bought it...now I am worried about this additive.

D8 - pm sent.

I did not notice the reference to HSS at first.

I take it that you have ONLY this UOA on your truck? Just remember that 62 ppm iron is .002 lbs. Hopefully you plan to do enough sampling to get a trend type history from this point on - I think it is helpful. Get a Fumoto valve so that you can get an oil sample easily in between changes. This might help you decide to use HSS the next oil change. IIRC, Chris says to go 5k miles if possible (or as long as possible). In your case, I would either change the oil at 3k or get a sample at 3k.

No reason to get too excited at this point.

D8, does your oil have a strange color to it ? I have an elevated iron level on my truck and the oil has a dark green color to it even just after an oil change.

Didn't notice any strange color, I'll have to check it out as I haven't disposed of the used oil yet. Sarge, I wouldn't think the HSS did this, I believe its just the lack of use. I am going to do another sample @ 3k and I DO have the Fumoto, so I have that going for me. But 3k might take me awhile since I've had it almost a year now and only put 4k on it in that time. Thanks for all the replies- Tim

D8,

We will both probably have the same outcome as I dont drive mine more that 5K a year. However I still try to change the oil in it every 4 months or so. I know thats probably a waste of money but I worry about all the short trips I take with it and the climate up here. I dont have a fumoto valve cause I own my own shop and have a lift so oil changes arent that bad for me. I guess something I could look into though.
My next oil change I will post my results as well as I will have gotten my first Black Stone report as well.

Ford recommends oil changes at 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first, so yes every 4 months is money wasted.
