aod

well i just got my truck back after a 1 week install of an aod. by the time i bought all the parts to switch it over from the farmer 4, got the driveshaft shortened, put in a shifter, cooler, lines. what a difference. for $700 parts, $160 for the driveshaft shortening and balancing, $1520 for the labour and a new valve body. the old 4 speed would be at the redline at around 100k, took it up to 100 and could still hear over it.

mark I to am going to try and put an aod in my 69 f-100. Do you have the 302.
Mine is a 302 and the aod is a 92 from a mustang. Did you use the 157 tooth flex-plate or the 164 tooth? Ihave both but don't know whitch to use. I got into balance problems once with these different flex plates. Stanyol69

i don't know which it was, will look for the receipt tomorrow. check the tranny i think the 92 was the aod-e. i went with the b&h universal shifter, but am not sure if i like it. hard to tell which gear i'm in.lol my tranny came out of a mid 80's mustang. for the flexplate wouldn't you just check the starter. 26 oz rings a bell. i tried to get a new balancer but it made the balancer and pully's out of whack. this weekend i still need to hook up the backup lights and the parking start lock thing.
am glad i did this just wish i didn't have to jump into it. need the truck to get to work and broke the old clutch.

Mark The early 302 had a 28 oz imbalance and the later ones have 50oz.
Also there is the long nose and the short nose starter.
Yesterday i put in a new rt floor, today I got it buttoned up and the fender back on. I have a lot of wiring to do on mine whoever had this truck left them hanging everywhere. Also gages need work.

i already rewired mine. went with the ezee wire set up. now i'm ready for power windows, door locks and ac. didn't want to have to keep fixing it.lol
instead of fixing the guages you can get a round guages, blue oval truck's has a plate for the front of the bezel so you could update if you want. i just picked up a new speedo off of ebay for $60 shipped.

Mark You say you don't care for the b&h shifter. can you go back and use the shifter on the column? that is what i was planning on doing.

mine was a floor shift. when i put in the new column i couldn't get the one with the shifter in time to i decided to go floor shifter. that's the trouble when it's your daily driver. i think it'll be ok when i get used to it and have it set properly. the original column was without bearings, signals, and the bottom 6" was rusted out. now i have tilt, power steering, hazards(lol). a nice half wrap wheel and a horn that works(first one in 12 years).

You can use the column shifter, I did it on my 70. I had to do it the hard way with a altered bell crank from a later truck and custom linkage(you can't use a straight linkage from the column to the trans). Now there is an after market cable setup that seems to be pretty easy to install. I don't remember who makes it but if you do a google search you should be able to find it.

Good luck, Mike

Hey guys, I am getting ready to AOD my pickup also with EFI all from a crown vick. I want to use the 71 column I have and the big steering wheel. I was going to use the column mounted NSBU switch for backup lamps and neutral start. Does the ECM look for a signal? If so couldn't I just tap in at the column switch? I haven't studied that section of the wiring yet. Also checking into getting a decal made to cover the PRNDL on the column PRN(od)321
