Been doing a little stripping and taking pictures

I found out with a heat gun and a brass puddy knife the paint on my truck comes off great.

I have found no filler of any kind and outside of the rear of the front fenders no rust.

Look in my gallary for a few picts.

Thumbs up Looks Great

I agree!!! It looks like you have a great foundation to work with. I have a 1950 F1 and thought it looked pretty good till I saw that body. Keep her up and enjoy your work!

I thought that would get some attention

Yes I was VERRY happy to find no filler and only the original red cab and black fenders under the primer. It had another coat of red on the grill and fenders over the black but other that that it is comming off great.

I think I am going to get a small pressure pot blaster or the pressure washer adapter and clean the rest of the hard areas myself rather than getting it blasted.

I am going to have quite a bit of metal work ahead but at least it is not dented and rusted.

Bob it is a funny story I stumbled on the heat trick, I pushed the truck out the other day after doing the suspension, I wanted to see what it looked like outside with the dummy block and some weight on the frontend. while it was out I started to clean out the shop a little and decided to wash it with my steam cleaner so I drug it out and started cleaning and noticed the heat was making the paint blister and peel with the water. so after pushing it back in I got the heatgun out and started to warm up the bed side and scrape the paint a little. It started comming off in strips about 4-5" long right down to the metal. so we kept going till the truck is where it is today. I am going after the scraper with the DA and 80 grit seems to be working pretty good so far. We got the grill out today and used stripper on it as well as the hood, I am going to buy a soda blaster and finish all the small areas with it. I need to stop by the paint store next week and pick up some primer to seal it up fron the Houston air before it turns into a ball of rust.

Thank you guys for all of the comments, I will relay them to the old girl Monday. Mike

Mike that front end looks good. Did you go with drop spindles or stock? I just ordered mine for my 51 and went with the 2" drop but I am going for a down in the weeds look. As for primmer are you planning on doing metal finish or filler for the dings and dents? If you are going to work the metal a bit before doing any filler then I recomend that you do not prime it yet. You want bare metal for working and I use a product called Piclex 20 and it will keep the metal from flash rusting for months and years if keeped in a shop so you can do all you metal work then seal the truck before spraying on the build primmer and blocking. Just a thought.

Bob, the heat gun is a master the red one with an adjustable "flew" on the side to regulate the temp. It is pretty mean as far as heat guns go.

Kevin I used the Speedway enono crossmember (welds not ground) and I had a friend that had a stock MII frontend that I got all of the suspension from Stock springs and spindals. I bought the rotors, bushings, ball joints and rebiult callipers from them at same time.

I have an empty block, heads, and 700R4 in it and with 325# on the frontend it is 5" to the running board in front and 7 1/2" in the rear.

The rear suspension had the spring hangers flipped on the frame 5 leaves removed and the main leaf flipped and the arch reversed (the eyes are upside down when you flip the hangers) by a spring shop here in houston. It has a 9" with moser axles and a 3.70 gear that I cut down from a big web truck housing and welded back together with my line up bar.

I have quite a bit of metal work that we will be starting Monday evening I am going to try and get it as straight as I can to keep the filler to a minium.

Thank you, Mike
