Axle shaft seal replacement?

i need to know how to change the axle shaft seal on my d44 front. this seal is the one that is attached to the outer axle shaft. not the ones in the diff. the package consists of 2 plastic rings, a rubber seal an a metal ring. i cant figure out how to remove and replace the metal ring. i thinks its called a slinger. this is the last thing holding me up so i need to know how to do this asap!

Thanks Bob

You have to pull the spindle to get to the seal and slinger.
The spindle is usually stuck to its mount and very hard to pop loose but can be done with careful determination with a soft hammer being very careful not to damage the threads.

use a drift or chisel to tap the slinger off of the outer axle shaft. its press fit.

Are you replacing the slinger or the axle shaft- I recently replaced my axle shafts and had to transfer the slingers to the new outer shafts. I guess its the same either way- tap the slinger on with a brass hammer or hammer and brass drift, avoiding hitting it in a spot that would bend it, then wrap the rubber seal onto it.
