The 02 model year was not available with the Torqueshift transmission, they were all equipped with the 4R100. Only the Torqueshift equipped vehicles have a Tow/Haul button, and only the 2004/2005 Diesel models, at that.

Don't you need to have the diesel to get the Torqueshift?

Yes, it was only available with the Diesels.

I find that illuminating.

Are you sure that on the shifter it says the words "Tow/Haul", and not "Overdrive Off"? You might want to check which transmission you really have. It might be that odd vehicle you hear about sometimes.

If it says "Overdrive Off" then it is a 4r100

I just verified the books and the Ford Source Books and the Ordering Books do not show the Torqueshift transmission as a possible option for either the 2004 or 2005 year with the V-10, and these are the books the dealer uses to order them from.

If you have the Torqueshift and not the 4R100, then it is a unique animal.

Definitely a 4-speed, I wish it was the 5.

It says "overdrive off", I guess I have commonly calle dthat a "tow haul" button. My mistake.

Anyone here ever swap in a 5-speed into an X?

Since I have never had a diesel, I'l leave that answer to the diesel folks. You can also get more information about towing in general at RV.NET

I'm currently looking into it. It may be prohibitively expensive though. I'm looking to use the 5R110 that is in the back of the E-series with the 2V V10.

I'm also exploring the installing of a ZF-6 (manual). Wife may not be real keen on that one though. She prefers the slushbox.

I'll post when I move forward on either plan.

FYI, that trans is identical to the trans in the 3V V10 4x2 F series, and is also identical to the trans in the 6.0L 4x2 trucks.

Interesting info! Thanks! Certainly helps with the search.

They have a separate controller that is compatible with my truck? That's why I considered one from an existing 2V powerplant in case I had to swap PCM. I could always add a custom tune so that I wouldn't have my truck "de-powered" running the PCM from the E-series.
