True Dual on 96 f150 5.0

ok I wanna rip off the crappy stock exhaust and run true duals with no cats and cherry bombs on my 96 F-150. Now i'm new to exhaust. I'm having problems finding the pipes with the 2 hole bracket that bolts right to the exhaust manifolds. If ya know what I'm talking about, what the hell is it called and can I just pick them up at my auto parts store? I don't see them when I look online.

Also what is the best way to run all this? Is it better to weld it all together or can I just clamp. I would think weld but I dont have a welder.

Thanks for all the help.

It is way better to weld it all to together, but clamps are ok too. What you are looking for is called a flange. I doubt you parts store has them, but why not just reuse the stock ones.

I would but then I would have to cut the y pipe at the first converter and there isnt much room to work under there. The bolts are rusted on and theres no getting them loose be sides cutting them off. So what I think I might do is cut the y pipe into 2 and run the dual back clamping it together and when I get a welder I will weld it.

you could go to an exhaust shop and they will be able to make the pipe section you are refering too... usually called a lead pipe... They will do it... But at a price of course...

Ok heres another question I have. Do I have to have O2 sensors in? If I don't will I lose any MPG?

If you have an O2 sensor on each bank, you shouldn't loose anything, but if you have a single O2 sensor for monitoring the fuel trim, you will need to be careful how you position it. If you can somehow keep it setup like the factory sensor then you will have fewer potential issues.

Since you vehicle is a OBD-II system, there is an O2 sensor behind that cat that is designed to monitor the cat. You will need to have a cat to keep that light off, even in a non-emissions area. Some people just live with the light, but if you want to keep it off, you will need a cat. There are good high flow cats that should give you the sound you want, without robbing power.

Might I suggest these?
Item Details

Just place the downstream sensor behind a cat and the light won't come on.

Thats where the sensor was in the first place was before the cat. Just after the Y pipe and before the cat.

If not having one out of the 3 sensors will not steal to much MPG then I don't care about the light I'll just pull the bulb. But if its gonna steal 2 or 3 MPG away well I better put it in. If I don't have a cat but have that sensor in will the light still be there? I just wanna know if the sensor will work right.

Also what do I need to do to put the sensor in the new pipe? I know drill the hole but what else will I need? The female bung? and will I have to weld it in or can I drill a small hole and make it a tight fit? I just dont have a welder right now.

You absolutely have to weld that, and you have to weld everything ahead of the sensors too, unless you use the special clamps that do not leak.

Heres an idea, in your area are you required to have a muffler? If you are not required to have one, then a cat and straight pipes would probably sound about the same as a glasspack.

There are so many bad ideas in this post.....

First off, dont mess with the sensors. If your truck came with 3, then USE 3.

Pulling the bulb is stupid. You will never know of any other codes you may have, exhaust related or otherwise, and makes selling the truck illegal.

Drill a hole and weld in a O2 sensor bung. There is no other way to do it right. If you just wait and do it right the first time, all this other crap will not come back to haunt you later.

And trying to defeat the emissions equipment will likely cost more than just replacing it. Your vehicle has a computer system that is designed to detect catalyst function, and will set a code if the cat is nonfunctional or missing. In some cases, it will also attempt to revive the malfunctioning cat by altering the fuel trims.

First off no one said that I will ever sell this truck and I won't. Plus what r they going to do to me LOL nothing there is no way to prove I did that to the exhaust. second I will not put a cat on and no matter what kind of cat you get high flow or not it quiets down the sound. And for the sensors I plan on using all three just asking what happens if I don't.

There is no need to get your panties all bunched up and use words like illegal and do it right the first time. Please don't treat me like I'm 10 yes I'm new to exhaust thats why I ask dumb questions.

Thanks

Doesnt matter WHO did it, YOU own the truck with the illegal modifications. Yes, I used the word "illegal". Thats because it is.

I'm new to exhaust thats why I ask dumb questions.

Nothing wrong with a dumb question, we have all asked them in the past.

There is no need to get your panties all bunched up

What do you know about wearing panties
