Is there a handheld code scanner for '94.5...

1994.5 7.3 PS, I went looking today at Checkers or Kragen or whatever it's called, and the one the parts guy showed me, I think on OBD 1, on the back said '94 7.3 N/A. Is there something else out there? I'd like to have one. I bought a Cam Pos Censor, and I think that's the problem, but I'd like to have one on hand anyway. The truck's while driving before it's completely warmed up, will do a real quick studder/die only for like a second or so. Anyway, thanks for any words of wisdom.

Are you getting a check engine light? Most likely a CPS though,
need more info.
Look here:

N/A stands for "Normally Aspirated" = non turbo. No turbo....no PSD.
It's a 93 to early 94 IDI engine.

I'm not sure but you may have both OBD1 and OBD2 connectors on your truck..my 96 does.
The OBD2 connector is under the dash in the middle of the truck,
the OBD1 connector is under the hood.

I have an Snap-On Ethos scanner. It reads codes and data and has connectors for OBD1 and OBD2. Works well on domestic and asian.

You will find that most cheap scanners will not work on PSD's, I have an Auto xray that turns the engine off when you hit scan.
I do have an Autoenginuity that is a the cat's meow...but pricey. Most good scanners are expensive though.

Some Autozone scanners (brand name?) work on our trucks...most of the counter help doesn't know how to use them though. At least they will scan it for free.

I'm in the same boat as the original poster. I think I'm going to get a scan guage for it, but I will likely need to get my PCM reflashed in order to make it work with the OBD2.
