starter noise

I have noticed that when cranking the truck when cold there is a loud noise like metal to metal. This only happens when cold.
Any ideas?

Check your oil level. What type of oil are you using?

Check the bolts on the starter to make sure they haven't backed out any. Ford also uses a flexplate between where the trans and engine bolt together (I'm not sure if they still use it on the new trucks...but I know they did on the older stuff). If it has one, make sure that's in good shape. Check your exhaust/heatshields for any looseness that could cause the noise.
