replaced ignition accuator cam, however

'90 F150, after i put every thing back, still won't start. wondering if i missed something? i turn the key, hear the fuel pump but no cranking from starter. could this be related to my moving around the ignition switch during process?
thanks in advance.

There is some adjustment at the ignition switch which is bolted to the middle of the steering column.

installation instructions said to find midlash, which i was not exactly sure what that was. what i did after putting in place was to make slight shifts to switch (using the slots in frame of switch) so that i would get the key to function as well as i could.
is it possible that making further slight adjustments would make the difference? is this just a trial and error method, or is there a way to be sure that it is located properly?

First disconnect the negative battery cable before making any adjustments to the ignition switch.

I don't know if it's possible but you could be off a tooth on the gear part of the actuator which could cause not enough actuator rod movement.

The ignition switch has the following positions.

Accessory
Lock
Off
Run
Start

The way the manual says to adjust the ignition switch is to first remove it.
Then manually place the ignition switch in the Lock position. Insert a 5/64 inch drill bit into a hole that is on the side of the ignition switch to keep the switch in the Lock position.

Place the ignition key switch in the Lock position and remove the key.

Insert the actuator rod onto the back of the ignition switch. Bolt the ignition switch to the steering column. Manually move the ignition switch back and forth so any excess play is the same in either direction. Tighten the two nuts that hold the ignition switch to the steering column.

I would move the ignition switch back and forth untill you have all 5 key positions. In your case you say you have no start postion. That would indicate the ignition switch needs to be moved towards the steering wheel. (When you turn the ignition key clockwise the actuator rod moves downward towards the floor).

The Reader's Digest condensed version is: get access to the switch, loosen nuts enough to slide, turn key "OFF", and:
Slide in one direction until something happens (dash lights) back the other way until "", then back to the middle. Snug nuts a little and fine tune, then tighten and see how it works.
