cab light not coming on with door open

Guys,

I asked this question once before and i did what everyone told me to do but it didn't help. I have a 2002 SD extend cab. When you open the doors, my interior light does not come on. If you flip the switch on the dash to manually turn it on, it will come on. But simply opening the drivers door or passengers door it will not turn the light on. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a sensor to clean or replace. I doubt it is a fuse being the everything else works. The truck has done this since February when i got it.

Thanks

Just what was it that you did before that did not work based on suggestions from others? Was it the WD-40 all over the latch trick? If not, try it. Has it always done this or did it just start. I don't know the history of your truck but if you bought it used, someone may have reset something. Check your owner manual and see if there is a process to turn this feature off / on.

Usually spraying the lock heavily with WD-40 makes the difference. I've not heard of any other issues with a sticking light switch.

When i bought the truck (Feb 2008) the light did not work properly. It still is not working properly. I tried spraying contact cleaner into the locking mechanisim when the door was open. Should I try spraying WD-40 in the keyhole? I will also try it on the locking mechanism being that i tried contact cleaner the first time. The condition happens with both the drivers and passenger doors. I will try them both. Is the light switch in the locking mechanisim or is there a seperate switch somewhere like the older fords had that depresses against the cab when the door is shut?

I BELIEVE it's integrated into the locking mechanism...it's not an old style contact switch like we're used to seeing.

I recommend you try using the WD vs the contact cleaner...I think this is a lubrication issue vs a dirt issue.

Let me know how that goes.

When i bought my truck the previous owner or place i bought it from had one of the relays in the wrong place, maybe on purpose to get rid of the door chime.

Not that I am advocating not being safe, but if you just want to get rid of the door chime, go to the dealer and ask for a seat belt extension. You connect it and it thinks that you are using the seat belt and no more chiming.

There are better/safer ways to get rid of the seatbelt chime. Check your Owner's guide, or look in the Tech Folder for the link to a thread on disabling the different chimes/dingers.

Question Interior Cab Light Not Coming On When Door Is Opened II

I have a '99 Superduty Ext. Cab. that I just bought two days ago. My interior cab light does not come on when any doors are opened. Plus, it does not come on when the dimmer switch is rolled all the way up as it's supposed to do. I've checked for continuity thru the bulb, of which there is, so that tells me the bulb is good. Are the switches for this light on the front of the half-doors just above the handle that opens the half-doors? Is that what is supposed to be sprayed? Or is it the door lock cylinder where the key is inserted? I've checked fuses, and can't seem to find any that are blown. Both of the map lights on either side of the cab light DO work. Thanks in advance for the suggestions! I appreciate it! Dan..................

Yes, spray the door locks...but I'd recommend you shoot a little in the door lock cylinders too.

There is a sensor at the bottom of the latch that tells the computer if the door is open or closed. Its the wire closest to his palm in the pic. Usually if they get dirty the light stays on when the door is shut. I think you have a fuse or relay problem.

So is this latch assembly that is shown in the picture in the main door, or the half door? Thanks!

Main door. If you need to take them out this link will help although its for lock actuator replacement. Try to find out which relay controls the lights that would be the first place to look.

If the cab light isnt coming on when you roll the dimmer switch all the way up your problem isn't the door switch. If you roll the dimmer switch all the way up do the cargo lights in the bed come on?

Have you tried checling for 12volts at the light socket instead of checking the light for continuity?
