Smile Lucky Find

Took a load of scrape in last week and decided to take a look at the trucks that had been scraped. I found an 86 f250 duelly that had an overdrive unit on the back of the tranny. I decided to look under the hood, and low and behold there was a shiny turbo sitting on top of the motor. Went and asked the boss man about the parts, I ended up getting the turbo and overdrive unit for 150 bucks. I also bought the fuel lines, injector pump, cd player, air horn, and a set of brand new return lines for another 75. I think the truck came wihtout a turbo was one was added at the dealership. The dash trim around the radio had turbo written in it.

I do have a question about putting the turbo on my truck. I did not find a cdr valve on the back of the engine. Instead the rubber hose connects to the bottom of the turbo. Does this mean that I do not need the valve?

You are going to make a lot of members very mad. That was a steal

Did you get the trim from the interior that says "turbo" on it too?

You will still need a CDR valve, but it usually gets relocated when a turbo gets installed.

If you take some pix on the setup we might be able to figure it out. If some one can identify the turbo kit, that would make it easier.

What type of overdrive? I've been looking for a used Gear Vendors for a while and haven't seen one one for less than $1,500.

Im going back to the junkyard tomorrow to get the brake controller so i'll tack a better look to see if I missed the CDR. Hopefully this weekend I can take pictures of the setup.

I havent had time to clean off the overdrive yet so I am not sure who actually made it. At the moment the input and output shafts are different than what are on my truck. It came off of a 4 speed and has a universal on the end of it. Mine has a tcase with a slip yoke to the driveshaft. I am actually considering selling it because the turbo will make me happy enough, i really do not do much highway driving.
