Sounds like a realy good deal to me. I've got a 2002,same exact truck.Mine is a long box. They do come with manual hubs with the auto selector on the dash.It won't go into 4low without the hubs locked, only 4high, which is handy in the snowy weather.Better snap that one up!!!!
I'd go for it, but offer about $8k and see if they bite, also check to see what maintenance has been done lately (plugs/boots, O2 sensors, diff/trans/transfer fluids, brakes, tires, coolant, PS fluid, PCV valve). If these things haven't been done, they will most likely help with milage and HP once you do them. None are terribly expensive (except tires).

Offered him $8k...wouldn't take it, but he would take $8500 if the other two potential buyers didn't offer more than that. He said he'd give me first chance to match their offers before he sells to them. He had the plugs changed last week...the truck starts and runs very smoothly. And cosmetically, it looks like an 07 or 08.

With the gas prices like they are there are a lot of good deals out there to be had for a big gas powered truck. The earlier Super Duties are selling for a whole lot less than 8K-9K now a days. I'm not saying that they aren't worth it but most folks aren't paying that much. My grandfather always said a vehicle is only worth what someone wants to pay for it. If somebody (you) is willing to get 9K for it then that is its value but it wouldn’t be worth that much to me.
BTW, I maybe a little biased. I’ve been casually trying to sale my 1 ton for the past two years and haven’t found anybody that agreed with me on its worth. It has got to the point that I’m tired of paying insurance on a truck that I don’t need or drive anymore. Here real soon somebody (not soliciting, just stating) is going to get a real good deal on it!
