I will have mine in tomorrow. I ordered the Gryphon with the custom 87 perf tune. They told me that it should yeild better mileage (if I keep my foot out of it). I will have it in and report back after. I have a trip scheduled for next week that should give me a pretty good idea how it will do.

i got my edge but now a gryphon, for both! i never thought the 5.4 was sluggish at all. i think its a solid motor. i even got it with 3.55 gears with 20 inch rims. however i only notice what people about about the slugishness when i'm merging into highways at medium speeds and i'm not punching it.
i bought this tuner and i was wow'ed. in the edge's canned stage 2 tow tune, the mileage stayed the same but the low end torque sky rocketed but it acts just a little better at higher speeds. in stage 3, i have the ability to always get on it and use more fuel in the city and back roads. the reason is because i'm always so on it, with even that i'm only using minimum more gas than stock. i usually average 15.5 on a stock truck on the city/backroads. with me in stage 3 i'm averaging 15.2 with me on it alot. however i'm stage 3 i'm using 87 fuel and retarding the timing 2.5-3 degrees to not ping. on the hwy, i used 89 fuel and retared timing by 1 degree and i averaged 18mpg constant 70mph.
i got bill's custom 87 performance tune and i averaged 18.5mpg on my trip last night from marysville ca, to ventura ca. THATS OUTSTANDING CONSIDERING ITS A FULL SUPER CREW CAB, 5.4, cheap 3.55 gears with 20 inch factory rims. not bad huh? i'd like to see 19.5 when i get my tonneau cover!!!!
i did however on some roads where the speed limit is 60mph, i cruised at 60mph exactly and reset the MPG reading and, it constantly stayed in the 22-22.5mpg for 50 miles until i got home. idling infront of my house for some minutes and moving cars around, it went down to 22.0.
hell, if you need to save fuel i guess these trucks love the 60mph range.
if i were you, don't get a edge, GET THE BLACK SKINNED EDGE AKA GRYPHON!
I have an edge, and I am happy. The mileage is not a huge increase though. I bought it to get 1 to 2 miles per and that is exactlly what it delivers. I have a 06 FX4 and I cannot get above 15mpg on the highway. I don't drive crazy so I think that these truck just won't get what they suggest they will. Like I said, I am happy with the edge but getting it for the gas mileage alone might not give you the results you may expect.
Up here in Colorado I average 15 in the city and 20/22 on the highway. I'm not easy on my truck, but I don't floor it much either. That's stock and without a tuner.
I have the volant intake with the powercore filter and the edge. While driving around normally, I see about a 3 mpg difference, if I baby the truck I will get a solid 4 mpg. Now, when I punch it all the time and romp on the truck it's only like a 1.5 difference.

When I 1st got my truck, I got 10 to 11 mpg highway. Now with the few mods I've done and that includes a tonneau cover that I don't list in my sig I'm getting 13.5 city and 15 highway

What? 20/22 on the Highway and it is 100% stock without a Tuner? I have been watching how I drive my '06 and by keeping the RPM's under 2,500 and driving on cruise while on the highway - I got 17.5 mpg over all and was happy... I have 3.73 gears and no bed cover...
I have not done the mpg for strictly a Highway run I am curious to see what that would be... maybe it is 20? who knows...

Ok - I did a Highway run.... Managed 70mph (on cruise) and I had my Quad in the back (with gear etc.. probably 750 lbs) and I traveled 135 miles on 7.8 gallons so that equals = 17.2 mpg So I cannot complain...

K first day of Houston traffic and I am seeing about 1.5 better than last week in the same driving conditions, and this is with the canned tunes with slight changes to help with mileage. That and I like the fact that it gets rid of the throttle lag.

I just got my edge in last night and was messing around with it. i set it to the towing program and had 87 in the tank, and just to see what it would do, i did the 0-60 test and ran an 8.3 so i ran a little more 87 out of the tank and went and filled up with 93 set it to the extreme and did the 0-60 again, and that time it only ran a 9.13. shouldnt it be a lower time? I didn't really notice a big difference as far as power, i felt it more in the shifts were harder which is nice i will do a highway test out as i am going a couple hours away for the weeked so we will see how the mileage is
does anyone have any suggestions as far as like shift firmness, wot shift points, timing?, i am really looking for the best fuel economy, but i would also like the power when i want it
You really can't guess optimal timing. You need to datalog the truck to determine if the knock sensors are picking up much ping. If not, then you can bump up timing a bit and get better power/economy. WOT shift points are wide open throttle and therefore have little to do with economy. For normal driving leave the shift points alone for mileage.
