Hey guys, i have 98 Expy 4wd w/ 169k miles. i took it to reputable local shop for an alignment and tire rotation. when i went to pick it up they said they couldn't align it, the upper ball joints needed replacing. w/ parts i believe their estimate was little under $400 including an alignment.
well after doing some research, i may try and do it myself. and i am planning on replacing the lower ones while i am working on it. i have a couple questions though.
1) will it hurt the vehicle to run it like this for a little while? so i can buy the parts.
2) will worn out ball joints cause ill handling in the vehicle? i have noticed the handling seems to have faded away a little bit and the ride is little rough. i did install new Monroe Reflex shocks all the way around a while back.
They have been known to break and your front end becomes a lawn dart.
Plus it puts extra strain on what good components are left, not to mention tire wear etc.
If you get into an accident you could be swapping gum with bubba in the slammer.
Knowingly driving a vehicle that is not road worthy.
