This week my gas gauge is stuck on full. If I remove power it goes to 3/4 tank. About three months ago it was stuck on empty until I swapped out the float and it worked fine until now. I gather from previous threads that the fuel sending unit is probably the culprit.
I should test this by disconnecting the conection to the fuel sending unit and shorting the white or yellow cable to ground. If it reads empty then the fuel sending unit is bad. If it remains on full then the gauge is bad or the cable is disconnected somewhere in between.
I was able to get the gauge to read empty by putting a jumper between ground and the yellow wire. After removing the sending unit I plugged it in and the gauge worked when I moved the float arm. I reinstalled it and everything is working fine. I think the float was stuck and was dreed when I pulled it from the tank. Thanks for the reply.
