Switching Eddie for Holley.

Have 1980 F150 with 85 Mustang GT 5.0 HO. rebuilt, with lightweight pistons,
shaved heads (20 th.) Crane cam 284 dur. .498 lift int & exh. ( roller ).
True roller timing, Performer products Air Gap Intake ( Chrome polished aluminum ) Dual plane. 600 CFM Edelbrock , stainless steel headers with 2.5 in. dual Flowmasters exh. with H-pipe. 9 in. posi 3.70 gears.

Truck is slow off the line then tends to pull really strong mid-range to top-end. Heard that Eddies are good up high and poor down low. Also heard that Holleys will open strong right off the line and all the way through to top-end.

Thinking about trying 600CFM Holley.

Need some input. Thanks.

What is the rpm range on your cam? I had something along those lines in a 2 wd. My cam was 2,500 - 6,000 and i had 9" with 3.0 rear gear. Really dead off the line. I would stick with the edelbrock, unless you race this thing. What coverter do you have ? Stock ? Stall?

"Truck is slow off the line".... sounds about right for a 5.0 in a truck, and I'm not being sarcastic. The 5.0 is not known for big torque down low, and your combo definitely pushes the powerband above 3000rpm.

Conanski is right. Your gearing may also have something to do with it.

Range is 1400-5500, running stock converter , thinking about upgrading to 2500 stall. Gears are perfect , plenty of power. What about the Holley I hear
they pack a punch right off the start.

It definitely does push the powerband above 3000.RPM.
So what's your take on the Holley switch.

Intake is Air-Gap by ( Performer products ) not to be mistaken with Edelbrock
performer.

Its just a matter of what you like and what you are used too I have had more Holleys so I have more experince tuning them so I like them, I don't think one is better than the other I am just better at tuning holleys.

You'd be better off spending the money having your current combo dyno tuned instead of changing carbs.
