Alternator Noise

Turck: 95' Ranger w/ I4

Alternator is making an odd grinding/rubbing type sound. Sounds like the bearings are shot?

Could an alternator shop stick new bearings on it?

The alternator looks like a tight fit, how hard is it to remove?

Yes, it can be re-built. It's not that hard to remove, a couple of bolts. jd

bearings will more than likely need to be pressed in. Alternators aren't terribly difficult to take apart. A lot of time you can get new bearings at the autostore.

junkyard alternators go for 30-50$ around here...
why not switch out your old one and then take it apart...
i think it's 3 bolts to get it off...?
