Knuckle rubbing coil spring after Autospring

Hey guys I have had a 2" A/S on for about 6000 miles now and I just noticed that the knuckle is rubbing slightly on the coil spring. Is this normal? I really dont like it rubbing at all.

Any ideas? Thanks

Noticed the same thing.

After 40K + miles with no ill effects, I don't worry about it.

do either of you two have the new "offset" design? auto spring made this new style to prevent just this from happening. but, as MBB stated, it wont hurt anything.

no, it is impossible to install backwards due to the bolt pattern.

hmm i wonder if it it from when i put the truck on the lift at the shop to rotate the tires? the tires are completely off the ground then and the suspension sits on the coil spring almost at that time.

you'll see a little spot about 2" long where the upper control arm contacts the coil spring when the front suspension is fully drooping.

the Offset design wasn't to correct this issue. The AS originally came with middle supports that were welded striaght up and down. The new version comes with middle supports that are welded at a ~45 degree angle. This allows the spacer to fit without contacting the coil-over perch.

If you look at any other Leveling kit, you'll find they all do this also. It's just the nature of the beast and geomety when you push your coil-over downward by 2" to 2.5"

btw, at least 10k with mine installed and 0 functionality issues. the rubbing spot ain't exactly pretty, but it's 100% mechanically sound

Tylus I know this is asking alot and being anal, but when you have time could you snap a couple pics where you are rubbing so i can compare?

I just dont like the idea of rubbing, expecially metal on metal.

But I think this only happens when the truck is on a lift and tires off the ground, correct? Does it ever rub during normal driving conditions?

Only time it rubs is when the suspension is at full drop...like when the truck is lifted in the air.

I'll see if I can grab some pics...but it's extremely hard to see with the tire installed

I've only noticed it 2 times. 1 when I did an oil change using a Frame lift...and the other was when I had 2 wheels on the ground and 2 in the air

but yeah, you're right, only when suspension is in full droop is the upper control arm going to contact.

Sure I will get some in the morning. I just bought a Lexus IS 250 also! I am excited.

I am on the stock KR 20s also. Im buddy said I look badass in the front coming down the highway, you can see the lower control arms and coilsprings and it looks stout.

Thanks Tylus that is exactly what my truck looks like. I wont worry about it.
