Max EGT
Hey guys,
I am finally getting my edge evolution programmer. I am also adding a boost gauge and Pyrometer. I am just wondering what I need to watch for on my EGT's for example what's too hot. Running a programmer is new to me and I want to make sure I don't ruin my truck. I know I'll probably not have to worry about it when running empty but I have a 32 foot fifth wheel camp trailer and also pull a 12 foot trailer with 4 atv's behind it and the weight is about 11,000 pounds for both trailers. I also pull a lot of hills and canyons when I go camping. Thanks for the help.

First off, make sure that the EGT Probe is PRE-turbo, in the exhaust manifold is the best place. Post turbo (in the downpipe) will not be an accurate reading. Aluminum melts at 1220ºF, so for max EGT's should be right at 1200ºF. Anything over that and you risk melting something. Short bursts over that (to pass that cummings or D-max) are ok also, just make sure your not over 1200 for to long. As a rule of thumb, 1200 should be max though

Neal- if you remember cody's post of pre vs post turbo readings, at WOT there can be a 500* difference. 900 post turbo may not be safe!
