The Brakes work great but the peddle will stay all the way down, I pull up with my foot and all is good till the next time I need to stop. What can this be?thanksThis is on my 1978 f250 crew 4x4
is there a return spring on the brake pedal??like I said brakes work fine, fluid is good. press brakes, feels normal but pedal has no rebound..NO thoughts anyone???thanks
can you hear air entering the booster when you step on the brakes? does this only happen with the truck running? sounds like possibly bad booster. disconnect vaccum line and re-try.
could be a bad MC also. the piston can hang up in the bore slightly, causing it to drag, and the tiny internal spring isnt enough to push the pedal back up.

On many dentsides there is a lever setup behind the brake booster that gets tight. The rod on the pedal is connected to the booster via this lever setup and when it gets dry and rusty, the pedal won't return.
It makes a good appalachian parking brake.

ah, good point. the pin/pivet gets tight. check that first.

The only way I knew was because I drove a 77 F-250 SC for 3 years like that and didn't know what was wrong. Many years later I found the cause on friends truck. It was a real head slap moment.

Really! Please explain why that would be. Never mind, if it was the booster it would be harder to push the peddle, he likley has air in the lines of a bad MC.
Got out the wd-40 and sprayed the conections shown, also took off the master and cleaned the rod and sprayed a little wd on it too.works as good as a 30 year old truck should, thanks all for the help.R

Cool. I'm glad that worked. It only took me 10 years to figure it out.
WD-40 won't last once it evaporates though. You need to get a real lubricant back there. Even motor oil in a squirt can would be ok.
