SKY Manufacuring Shackle Flip Install
#31
My 78 F250 is a long bed with 2 tanks, which put the shackle bracket right beside the rear tank, just a little different from CaptainP4's pics where the bracket is at the back of the tank.
I also added the 0-rate offset leaf (block) that UTfball used when he did the swap from Offroad Design. The shackle flip rotates the leaf springs down and a little forward so the 0-rate leaf moves the axle back an inch keeping the axle centered, however not mandatory to do the flip.
The bolts that come with the sky kit are a little larger than the rivets so you'll have to enlarge all the holes slightly to a 1/2" bit.
I'll add some pics if I have some that show something different than already posted.

I have heard the rumors about limited payload capacities, and I have run a shackle flip for years, and I still tow as much (actually more) than I ever have, and have never had a problem with this design.
I do not see anything that supports the limited capacity theory. Chnaces are that if the vehicle is going to be towing extreme loads, then the shackle flip modification os probably not the right mod.
As far as the stuff from RS, it is limited by shackle length, which is what makes the shackle flip that much more advantageous. The longer shackle will provide greater spring movement, and that means more articulation, and travel. Running short shackles and making the hanger just that much lower, just adds lift and thats all. Longer shackles is where it is at.
Now, side loads become a greater problem, and this might be where the limited strength theory was ciltivated, but this could be a problem with a tension design shackle as well.
Compression style shackles will not limit capacities, to the point were one might not consider the upgrade.
