how often do you regen?

From what I have read this depends on driving habits, climate, towing, etc. However I see really large variables between different posts here. Some guys talk about 1 regen per tank of fuel while others claim only 1 regen in 10k or even 15k miles. Is there really that much difference between these trucks? Is there a link to Job #1, 2, 3? I will be joining the 6.4 club soon so trying to learn all the do's and dont's. Thanks.

My truck doesn't regen anymore

But way back when, it would go into regen about every 400 miles when I wasn't towing. A truck WILL NOT go into regen once every 10k miles. There is a fail safe on the truck to prevent the DPF from clogging from a sensor failure, and the limit is most likely somewhere around 1,000 or so. Most regens are difficult to feel, which is why some people think they only happen every few thousand miles. Regen intervals are highly dependent on driving habits. Now that my DPF is gone I can tell how much smoke these trucks like to produce.

About every two tanks unless I am towing. If I am towing, it seems to be less.

I have 3000 miles on the truck and it has regened twice. I have a job 3 truck so I know when it regens because I get a message (I really can't tell otherwise). I use it almost exclusively for towing

About every tank with just short runs around home. Last summer towing did not feel, or notice it in 3,000 miles. So I would say it depends on how hot its runs over a period of time.

IMO many regens go unnoticed. You need to have a pre turbo EGT installed to observe the rise in EGT temps when in regen.I have had regens were the only way I knew we were in one was the very high EGT's. At slower speeds, city driving, you will have more..there is no set timimg ..when soot builds up you will regen. I do not recall having a high speed regen.And..IMO.the dirtier it gets the more severe the regen.

Well first they told me I idle too much. Then they told me I drive on the highway to much! Then they replaced the Dpf and it helped for a very short time but it is back doing it again. I don't know but I am sick of it!!!
I have a hard time understanding how some can say they have never had or felt a regen. When mine regens it is a whole differant truck. Plus it seems like it does it everyday. I fill up every other day! I drive alot.

I get a regen almost every fill up; usually about every 2-400 miles.

I agree with Tom, you can tell when it's in regen, at least with mine. It is a completely different truck, different sound from the engine, etc.

OK, so if I am reading all this right here is what I can "assume" (we all know what that means). Job 1 truck regens are more noticeable via boost, performance, sound. Job 3 truck regens arent really felt but they have an indicator on the dash that tells you it is doing a regen (job 1 trucks dont have this?). The hotter the EGT's the less a vehicle will regen so typically towing helps.

As a side note I was talking to a friend that is a tech and I questioned removing the DPF and running a tune to eliminate the regen, no HP or torque, just eliminate the regen. He said it was a no go, Ford can see the last 10 calibrations and even doing this would void the warranty. Sigh. I was hoping to hear that challenging the EPA on the "mileage vs emmissions" theory wouldnt void a warranty. So does this mean removing the cat on a gasser voids your warranty too? Probably not since that doesnt require a tuner.

Mine is a job 1 truck and except when the DPF was defective my regen's have been as I described above. The majority of our driving is above 35MPh and mostly interstate towing speeds. When we do drive at speeds below 35mph we do get more frequent regens but certainly not every day or even close to that. and we can instantly see a regen by the EGT guage. On the last oil change, last week , they performed the latest software upgrades that brought my software up to Job 3 standards. Except for horrible MPG as compared to the Gm and Dodge comparable trucks we have not had the issues that others have had with their trucks????
