Out of Control Big Block 460

Hey I've got a 460 out of a 87 F250. I've taken it and placed into my mud truck.. '89 Chevy blazer. It runs open headers, MSD 6A, Blaster Coil, Holley 770, I had to a plate on under the carb looks like an EGR block??

Any how I can't get this thing to Idle at all. Was told to run timeing at 8 and some said 10 and some said 13... Closesest I can get is about 20* or it blows nice large flames out of carb...

Any help would be GREAT PLEASE!!! I used to race it and it was ok to set the idle up at 1500 for hard launches and good throttle responce however now I want to trail ride it and can't have the idle up that high.

make sure that no exhaust gasses are entering the intake mixture through the egr plate. then check for a possible vac. leak around the intake gaskets

On a 460 I don't believe you can block the EGR properly without making a custom plate. About all you can do is disconnect it.

take the carb and spacer off. plug the hole in the intake manifold. its a while ago for me to remember but i believe a .5 inch tap will thread the hole, just cut off a bolt and thread it in. all metal shavings will go out exhaust

Then I'd leave the spacer off correct. I'll check it out tonight when I get out of work. I'm going to have an exhuast put on the truck I'm hoping this will help out a little.

Occam's razor - timing has to be set past 20* to maintain idle with no flames, make sure that your MSD box is working properly.

Or, if you can't figure it out, do what I do - take it to a shop and spend $80 bucks or so to have them fix it. Sometimes it's worth it to spend the money to save yourself the time, trouble, and mental anguish, no matter what your mechanical abilities.
