97 Explorer O/D off light- Temp Related?

Has anyone come across a random overdrive off (O/D) light blinking on the dash?I have a 97 Explorer XLT, 4.0 sohc, 219k miles. The transmission runs great otherwise and the rpm's do see to come up a bit when the light blinks on the dash, but if I push the OD button to off, the rpms really come up like it is truly off. The light also seems to be temperature related, because it will go off when the truck is cold, but come on after driving for awhile. I am stumped. Can the overdrive be related to the temperature of the coolant or oil?

When it blinks is it on/off/on/off at a steady rate? If so, it means an error code was stored in the computer's memory. You need to have the code read to determine what's wrong.

Had the code before I swapped out rear ends, undid battery cable to bleed brakes, code came back, could it be hard code?
