Want more HP out of my 351
Thanks for the help on my previous questions. Now I am wondering what kind of simple upgrades can I get to up the HP of my 351. It is a '93. Bolt on upgrades are preferable. I do not have a set amount of HP set as a goal. I am just trying to get a feel of what can be done. If I can get some supplier names and a guess of HP increase I would appreciate it. Again thanks everybody!

Depending on your smog laws a new exhaust could net you about 10-20% gain in HP. I ran Doug Thorley headers into two shorty DynoMax cat convertors and ran 2.25 inch duals through a Flowmaster (dual in, dual out) muffler. I had to cross over to the passenger side with both pipes to avoid my 2 gas tank. Also, I understand that the K&N filter will give you a good kick and for easy starting and more efficient spark, I went to an MSD ignition and coil. Mine is a carbureted 351W in an '82 F150.

The Doug Thorleys are great boost for HP,you can run them with the catalytic converter alone without the muffler,(its not as loud as you might think with stock cat)with the Thorleys it is all the back pressure you need. The K&N filters are excellent, but remember to remove any venturi effect tubes that may be present in the stock air hoses or you arent really getting any advantage.A high energy ignition and quality plugs and wires,I have been using Bosch Platinum 4s and they burn very clean with an MSD Ignition. For your 93 351 you may want to try an aftermarket Chip, such as Hypertech, but it will require you to burn premium fuels or you will get a lot of pre detination,a controllabe timing unit in the cab can help there also,(I am installing an MSD in cab timing adjuster this weekend). They all accumalitively add lots of power. If you still want more try a performance cam,its not that tough of an install. And I guess you could consider a supercharger as a bolt on mod,(but I didnt attempt to install that one myself).Have fun.
