MY 95 has never let me down starting. In fact I get a little bold and sometimes only have to hold the key for a few seconds and she starts. Tried that today and the engine stumbled. Makes sense because I didnt turn it over long enough for the cylinders to fire. When I tried to restart she wouldnt go. Good craking power nothing wrong there. I noticed the oil pressure gauge flutter day before last. No one else would have noticed but it was just enough to make you wonder. Noticed the pressure go down a bit too and stay there for a while. I'm wondering if there is a cut off switch that is associated with the oil pump telling the control module to not start the truck?
Many Fords do have an oil pressure cutoff switch, which cuts power to the fuel pump if oil pressure is too low. I would recommend checking out Autozone's website; they have plenty of electrical diagrams and that would be a way to tell if your year is so equipped. First I would try and find out whether you're missing spark or fuel.
Hotwired the fuel pump at the EEC Test terminal. No sound at the fuel pump. Checked the pump for juice and power is there. Looks like the problem is the fuel pump. Got the gas tank part way out (1995 F150). The hose running from the filling nozzle down to the tank has another hose inside it. I cant seem to get it out. Is the smaller diameter hose just sitting inside? Can I pull on it?
So my little check via hotwiring the fuel pump didnt work so well. Forgot to plug the voltage back up to the tank. That would explain why I didnt hear the pump working. Plugged it in and it works, sort of. Sometimes I hear it running very strong, other times very weak, other times nothing. Should it always make a sound each time the key is turned on? If I shut the key off and on should I hear the pump run for a few seconds? I can get it to run continuosly when i hotwire it. NOt sure whats going on.
they pump will turn on briefly when you turn the key (to give fuel pressure to start) otherwise it will only run with the engine running ....BTW a manual would be a good investment
A better manual would work. The one I have is too generic. Not bad trouble shooting guides in the one i have. Replaced the pump took old one and bench tested it. Very upset at first when it started to work. Then happily it stopped, then started etc.. Diagnostics showed intermitent operation of the pump. That threw me off. Thought the problem was some where else. Almost 100 in the morning now so I'll install tommorrow.
