heater cables

The guy I bought my truck from customized a console where he put his heater controls (see my pictures). I took out the console and I am now having an issue getting the cables to fit in the dashboard. They seem WAY too long to fit in there; any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Mark

Get the right cables? I'm sure they were replaced at the time the console was made, since the stock cables are way to short to be in that position.

How long are the stock cables? The cables I found through Dennis Carpenter appeared to be the same length; around 28-29 inches.

Thanks!

The heater control cable is about that long, but the heat/defrost cable is about half that.

I got a set of cables and only one of them was too long; the other two were the right cables and they still sem way too long. I have to literally "cram" the cables into the dash and this causes fit issues with the controls as well as negatively impacts control function. Am I missing something or do I just need to be patient and find the right position and fit for the cables?

As always, thanks.

SULLDOG66: Your profile sez 1970, is that correct?

Fresh air heaters use one type and lengths of cables, the recirculating heater uses different cables.

AND = 1967 F100/350 heater cables will NOT work on 1968/72's. The lengths of 1967 cables are all different.

The following cables mount to the backside of the heater control panel that mounts into the dash, not to a bracket under the dash.

C8TZ-18518-A .. Temperature Cable-28.50" long-Use with Fresh Air Heater / Fits: 1968/72 F100/350 / Don Sanderson Ford in Phoenix (Glendale) AZ has 18 of these.

C8TZ-18552-B .. Heater Fresh Air Cable-w/o A/C-30.00" long / Fits: 1968/72 F100/350 / Found none...

C8TZ-18552-C .. Heater Fresh Air Cable-with A/C-29.50" long / Don Sanderson Ford has 101 of these

C8TZ-18548-A .. Defroster Cable-w/o A/C-21.88" long / Fits: 1968/72 F100/350 / Don Sanderson Ford has 118 of these.

Why would an AZ Ford dealer have so many cables?

They prolly stocked up years ago, because they were selling these cables to wholesale jobbers (buyers for autoparts stores) in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Way back when, I used to do the same thing with 360/390 fan shrouds. But..I never carried more than 10 in stock at any one given time.
