steering column lower bearing

I found a 79 ford tilt column for a auto trans. The white plastic piece that holds the bearing is not in good shape. Are these still available? If so what is the part number I need to look for? I tried to do a search but didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks for any help. The truck was a 2wd, not sure if that matters.

I believe there are metal replacements available from several places. I've seen them on eBay.

I bought one from the Ford dealer waaay back when... and it was a piece of crap.
I was made for a 1" steering shaft with a flimsy "add on" to reduce it to 3/4".
Mine's a 3/4" so I removed the junky "add on" and "bushed up" the shaft to 1". :)

YMMV :)

Anyone know if the bearing is the same for manual column and tilt? would they interchange?

If you mean the bearing held by the plastic retainer at the very bottom of the column tube than yes they are different. I have a new fixed column retainer at home and a tilt I am rebuilding but I havent tried to make it fit yet to know what the diff. is. Will look when I get home and let you know. If you find a source for the tilt bearing please let me in on it cause I need one too.

This is what one guy told me.

"The actual bearing you can find at your local carquest auto parts store. the plastic cap/bearing combo you can get at Jeffs bronco graveyard.com."
thanks andrew
