ok, i am going to admit to being out of the loop for a while, but i just bought a 85 f-150 supercab someone had started putting a 5.0 from an 82 car into
i am guessing it had a 5.0 before the swap.
it has a c6 tranny and everything seems to be doing fine now that i got it away from that fool, he even had the alt. on the wrong side among many other stupid ignorant mistakes
here is my question, how good are the heads on a 84? 5.8 ho? will they bolt to a 5.0? will the 5.0 intake fit? are the valves bigger? are the ports bigger? will they give me improved performance?will they need to be shaved? for performance i mean
i was just wondering since i found one in a local bone yard that is complete and remembered the 69 4v 351 winsor heads were sooo much better
302 (5.0) and 351w(5.8) heads from 1978-up are the same. Except for the head bolt hole diameters, they are the same heads. If you want any improvement, I think heads off a 5.0 explorer may be some improvement. Aftermarket heads are the best.

Are those the infamous GT40 heads that I keep hearing everyone rave about?
What's so good about them? I know I could google it to find out, but I just thought that maybe you could save me some time.

The GT40 heads are fords equivalent of chevy's vortec heads. There's the GT40 and the GT40P heads, only difference I can remember is the spark plug locations, the 'p' heads are in a weird position and cause header clearance issues. They were available on 1993 and up 5.0L HO's.
If your just looking for a better head the E7TE's off the earler 5.0 HO's or 87(?) up trucks are decent stock and with a bit of port work are a good improvement over what you have now and theyre cheap.
If you want to put 302 heads on a 351 you will need to get the head bolt holes drilled out larger, If you want to run 351 heads on a 302 shims are available that fit in the head bolt holes and allow the use of the smaller head bolts.

Edit: just did a quick google search and found this, some good info to aid in your search.
Did these 5.8 H.O.s come from the factory with a dual exit out of a single muffler? I swear I seen some on pre EFI Broncos. (and a test in Fourwheeler mag).
Please let me know if you seen or had one, and were these H.O.s only 49 state options.
