ihdiesel,
I had the same problem in my '68 F-100. Some users on here said it could be fuel pump, bad lifter, push rod, etc. It turned out that when the previous owner had put a new timing set on to replace the original nylon timing gear, that the old timing set had a spacer that went between the timing gear and the cam thrust plate. The new timing set gear had this machined into the the back face of it. So the previous owner put the new timing set on and didn't leave out the spacer. When I took the front over off the cam could walk back and forth a mile! It would strike the back of the timimg cover and sound like a rod knock from the bottom end. It ended up breaking the 2 ears off of the cam thrust plate. I replaced the thrust plate, and left out the original spacer. I bolted everything back up and it ran sooooo quiet. Hope this helps. Oh and as I stated, it could be fuel pump, push rod, lifter, rod bearing, just to name a few.

If it's the fuel pump you can find out by unbolting it for a minute and running the truck without it attached. The ticks goes away thats it. Could be some of the item mentioned in the other post. You might try pulling the pug wires off one at a time to see if it goes away, defining the offending cyl.
Also the choice of oil might be related (reduced zddp) do a search on it.

Hmm it's hard to tell from the video but it kinda sounds like mine does, or did. I had some piston slap from a rod bearing. It's in the process of being torn down for a trip to the machine shop. But I can't tell from your video - I wish you would have gone around the top of the motor so we could hear the sound a little better. Maybe I can grab a set of headphones.

Does it seem to be coming from one side or another? front or back? does it sound like a deep knock or a tap?

Do what the others have said too - my knock did not change when I pulled the plug wire. And mine seemed to be coming from the back passengers side, and after I pulled the pan it was cyl #3 that had the loose bearing.

How many miles on the motor? Looks like a nice truck from your video.

Fe 360

Change the motor oil today , ( from a low-price-semi-syntetic to a high quality mineral oil ) , but no change . When the enegine is could , there is no sound , but after 3 -4 minutes idel it is there . Tomorrow i try to pull off the valve rocker cover .
The enegine has only 58000 miles on the meter , and the car is in god condition . I have imported the car from Arizona USA . Check out my web on

Nice and clean! Still sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the bottom from your video?

Did it come with the Hat ? as mentioned you can rule out the fuel pump rather easily. After that, gets a little more complicated. That sounds like more of a knock or tap than a tick. Can someone here tell if thats 1/2 engine speed or full ? narrowing it down to rotating or valve related at least.....

This might sound "old school", but it works. Use a loooong screw driver like a stethascope. Place the bottom of the driver on a spot near the knock and put your ear on the handle. Some people put their thumb between the handle and ear. OR you can buy a 'mechanics stethascope' at a parts house.
