fan clutch help

cant get the fan clutch nut loose on a 96 psd. can someone tell mefrom the drivers seat which way it turns and a good way to hold the pully from turning. I left the belt on and trying to hold it I still cant get it to break loose......

while looking at the front of your truck, the fan clutch nut is a right handed thread. righty tighty, lefty loosey. I just did a waterpump on my truck, I borrowed the wrench kit from advanced auto part. It comes with a wrench that goes over the bolts on the pump pulley.

thanks ill give it another shot if anybody has any other suggestions for holding the pully shoot me a reply.

If you can't get the wrench that spans over the pulley bolts you can try a pair of channel locks pliers or a strap wrench on the pulley itself. I had some luck with a screwdriver jambed into one of the pulley bolts but this has a tendency to slip and bust your knuckles.

You might also be able to put a tool on the belt tensioner and tighten the tension rather than relieve the tension and that might be enough to break the threads loose.

Thanks everyone finally got it off after I pulled my head out of my exhaust.....
figured out what you meant by the wrench that goes around all 4 pully bolts. That nut is by far the toughest part of this job.....
