99 E150 rear gear swap

My father has a 99 E150 which we use for an electrical contracting business. The rear developed a problem and we swapped it out for a 02 E250 rear with disc brakes. Anyhow they are 8 lug in the back and in the front the normal 150 lug. So I have to carry two different size spares.

The 150 rear is out of the truck and can now be easily fixed. It was leaking gear oil out past the drums. We needed the truck done immediately, so we got a deal on the 250 rear which had to use the old leafs, etc... A real Frankenstein, so to say.

Anyhow, the 4.10 gearing is killing me. Since it is a light truck which tows next to nothing. I would like to put in 3.55 or 3.08 gears in the old 150 rear. Is this possible? I have a wrecked 92 F150 extended cab with a good rear.

What are the original ratios for the 99e250 and the 92f150?

I want to keep the e250 rear since I can use it and have it bolt up for a 99 e250, 00 e250 extended, and a 02 e250 extended. A spare like the rest, just in case. I am also trying to get a hold of a tranny spare for them all, in case it goes down.

With stock tires, 3.08 might be ok, but you'll hunt a bit in the hills with any load. Stock ratios varied as there were at least two options maybe more. Think 3.55, 3.73. 4.10. If you do a gear change, put in new bearings while you're at it.

Ya, get rid of the 5/8s look..... (5 in front, 8 in back, or halfway between 1/2 & 3/4...)

My area of NJ is very flat to say the least. The worse she'll have to do is go over a bridge to Philadelphia.

I don't care for 150s at all. The rest have been always 250s or above.
