Whats the easiest way to determine distributor

What are some ways to determine what kind of distributor I'm looking at. I have several different distributors. Do the windsor series engines have a different amount of teeth on the sprocket then the cleveland and the other big block distributors

mark a. is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
I've never counted teeth but the small blocks have a noticably smaller gear than 335's or 385's.

The drive gear on the Windsor engines is different form the 335 series of engines. If you swap gears on a Windsor dist with the gear from a 335 series you can use it in a 335 engine.....and that works the other way as well.

221-302 uses one dist, 351W another (Different oil pump driveshft dia). same gears

All 351C, M, 400, 370-460 use the same fitment.

The oil pump shaft on a 351W, 351C, 351M, 400, 429, and 460 is larger than a 289, or 302. The 351C through 460 use the same distributor and gear, but a 351W uses a different gear, You can swap a 351W distributor into a 335 series or 385 series by changing the gear. I am using a TFI dist. made for an EFI 351W in my EFI 400 with the 335 series gear.
You can't swap a 289 or 302 dist with the others unless you change the whole shaft.
