I wanted to let this forum know what happened to the nicest Ford truck I ever owned. Three weeks ago I was traveling with 3 of my friends and we got caught in a blizzard up near Edmonton. The roads were icy and a lot of people were hitting the ditch. A telephone company van went in right behind me and there were gusts of wind up to 60 MPH. All I know is we got blown sideways and as we went into the ditch we were going backwards, We would have rode it out and stayed upright but there was a crossroad between the divided highway and we slammed into the side of this crossroad and flipped on the roof of the truck. We were all hanging upside down in our shoulder harnesses and thank heavens, no one was hurt. I was so thankful that we all made it and I still am and the big Superduty did it's job and saved our lives.
These big trucks can only take one flip over and I had just replaced my badly cracked windshield two weeks prior to the accident because I read how important a windshield is to the cab structure. The new windshield and the back window blew out, the cab crushed up good. The moonroof was cracked up but still intact. Anyway the truck is a write off and I will be doing a lot of research on what I am going to buy next.
This story does have a happy ending. All four of us walked away unharmed.
I did lose the best truck I ever owned but they are making trucks every day. I had intended on keeping this truck for at least another 5 years but it was not in the cards. I just hope that fantastic V10 engine gets to breathe life into another vehicle and whoever buys that wreck will get a great drivetrain. The engine was not running when we landed on the roof so I think the fuel shut off switch did it's job.
One last funny comment, my own truck and I was kicking out my side window to get out of the truck when one of my friends said, "Don,the power windows still work".
Anyway, best of luck to all the readers of the V10 forum. Take care,
Wrench

First off, it's good to hear you're ok. Secondly, was the truck 4x4 with a manual transmission? I'm looking for a wrecked V10 donor truck to set my '64 Ford cab and bed on.
Holy Cow...Glad you walked away. I know you really thought a of of that Big V-10.There are time when I miss my 05.. I am sure the insurance will come through and the 08's look real good..

Rolling trucks around here seems to be a common thing recently, I just layed mine over on its side in a ditch a few weeks ago...Luckily for me no one was injured and the truck is still drivable, albiet a little dinged up. The V10 didn't miss a beat, and even after laying it on its side, the truck drives as straight and smooth as it did before.
Thanks for all the kind comments and I am thankful that Jake and Tao were not hurt in their accidents. Jake, your truck looks more damaged than mine was but when I flipped on the roof , most of our momentum was done. I saw the truck after it was back on it's wheels and it looked like it was damaged more getting it upright than the original flip but after the widows are gone, the roof is much weaker. I have lost the desire to get another moon roof although it probably does nothing to weaken the roof, just might let some ditch debris hurt someone's noggin. Police took us into town, we rented a van and went on to finish our construction job. Made our money, I drove the other 3 guys to the airport and I went and said goodbye to "Babe". Then I turned the rental van in and took the Greyhound back to the west coast .
