Tank Dipping

I was reading the "why is off road so high" thread, and was curious if anyone has actually got their tanked dipped?

I have put dyed diesel in my truck a few times from my dads farm tank, and we joked about getting my tank dipped, but come to think of it I dont personally know anyone that has ever got a tank dipped.

I was working on a job and the FTA came by and dipped all the dump trucks as they were leaving. That is the only time I have ever seen them dipping a tank personally.

Just last week I was pulled over by the MA State Police for a DOT inspection. I was in a16,000 GVW cab over. He dipped my tank. I have access to off road diesel and I won't even remotely consider putting it in the tank. I got lucky, I had a couple of things that he got me on and just gave me a paper to send in within 15 days with proof that I have corrected them. For the few $$ that you will save it's not worth the gamble.

So far not many guys have had it happen to them! I was just curious, its not like im gonna run it often or anything anyways. My father and i just happened to be taking my truck instead of his and he offered to fill me up.

Next year I can qualify for farm plates so I wont have to think twice about it then anyways

Its still offroad diesel, even with farm plates you can't run it in your truck.

here in alberta you can. I know a guy that has farm tags, and uses offroad fuel in his car. His is a gasser, but I imagine its the same for diesel. If you have farm tags, u can use offroad diesel

I dont know how I missed your reply cart, but yes, up here in canada, in saskatchewan anyways, with farm plates you can run dyed diesel.

Diesel is 1.22 cent a liter here. (at the flying j's, last time I checked)

I gallon = 3.78 liters

3.78 litersx 1.22 = 4.61

So we are paying (at least here) 4.61 cents a gallon canadian.

Today our dollar is worth 97 cents of the us dollar. So in the end we are paying 4.73 a gallon!

Actually not too much difference to my amazement!

Not to much difference in his area, but I think our national average comes out to being a fair bit higher, around Calgary its at $1.30 a liter, but the dollars are even right now.

I probably use off-road 70 percent of the time in my PSD. The Dot usually stays away from pickups. However, don't use it in the big trucks as you will get nabbed.

Off road gasoline is the ticket. It's not dyed, but you have to save your receipts and you get a tax break at the end of the year.

Is there a percentage of dye that can be in the tank and not get a ticket? I was once told there was.
