Question 8.8 to 9in question

Hey guys I have a 94 150 ext cab i just got through putting in 6in suspension lift dana44 locker with 4.10 in the front and a 9in in the rear with the same and running 36x15x15 tires but now i have an abs light, no spedometer and tranny is shifting real late. was wondering if anyone else has done the 9in swap and if theres anything i can do to correct this any help is much appreciated thanks.

When you put the 9" in you gave up the vehicle speed sensor that is in the top of the housing. The VSS sends input to the ABS, PCM and speedometer and they are all in a world of doodoo without it. You might be able to get something to work from the trans tailshaft if your trans is even set up to accept a speedometer cable or speed sensor. You might also be able to make something work in the rear end or on the driveshaft. The easiest fix is to put the 8.8 back.

Ive heard you can take the tone ring and snsor of the 8.8 and fab it up on the 9 inch. I havnt seen pictures of this, there might be a kit out there for the swap? It would be nice since the 9 inch is better.

You may be able to add a VSS module to the tail section of your E4OD tranny. If not another solution is to use a Sterling or Dana HD axle from a heavier truck, these also have the integrated VSS, but then you'll need custom axles shafts to retain the 5-bolt stud pattern or you'll have to convert the whole truck to 6 or 8 bolt wheels.

8.8 rear with 36" tires is fine, unless you're planning on rock crawling!

^Agreed

You can modify/machine the exciter ring to fit the 9" assembly though.

It would be easy to get the ring on the carrier. The hard part would be mounting the sensor with the correct air gap.
