To be honest with you I have an 05 150 now but before that I had 2 different 02 150s.All supercab 4wds..I know the newer one is more advanced. No question about that. But if I had a choice as to which one I would drive on an all day trip? No question,,the 02..The seats in a newer style XLT suck as far as I'm concerned.Too flat across the top by the shoulders..Now the newer Lariat was a bit better due to more padding..I know its a minor detail, but when you drive as much as I do its important..

4th 1.14:1
5th 0.87:1
6th 0.69:1 The rest of it looks good.
Reverse 3.40:1

Toyota ratios

1st 3.333 A spread of 1.37 between 1-2
2nd 1.960
3rd 1.353 .61 spread between 2-3
4th 1.000
5th 0.728
6th 0.558

That close ratio trans is part of the reason why the Toyota whips our ass in a drag race. They keeep the engine in the middle of the power band. Combine that with more hp and less weight...

Ford needs to put the 150 on a diet. Lose 1000 lbs and see where the performance and mileage goes.
Yea, big rpm drop from 1st to 2nd, but you're forgetting the fact that the 6Rs 2nd gear is virtually the same as an AOD's 1st gear!

Go drive one of these trans, Ford has the geaing spot on.

The 6R gearing makes the Toyota's 6-speed look like ****. I'll take the 4.17:1 1st anyay.

AOD 1st gear...2.84

6R 2nd...2.34

That ain't virtually the same...!!! They should have made 2nd in the 6R in the 2.80s.

But if you are happy with the new trans...

I'm just sayin...in my opinion, it could have been somewhat better from a performance standpoint.

AOD/AODE 1st gear: 2.40:1

...virtually the same as the 6Rs 2nd.

Here's a quick comparison on trans gearing I made in another thread.

Keep in mind this calculator is assuming a locked torque coverter, which usually isn't the case on a 1-2 upshift. The unlocked torque coverter, assuming it is stalled correctly, should allow the converter to flash a bit higher than the rpm values shown.

The Ford 6R80 (4.17, 2.34, 1.52, 1.14, 0.86, 0.69) with a 5500 rpm upshift, 3.73 gear and a 30" tire diameter puts the:
1-2 @ 33 mph and 3200 rpm in 2nd
2-3 @ 57 mph and 3600 rpm in 3rd
3-4 @ 88 mph and 4200 rpm in 4th
4-5 @ 117 mph and 4200 rpm in 5th
5-6 @ 153 mph and 4400 rpm in 6th

Compare to the current Ford 4R75 (2.84, 1.55, 1.00, 0.7) still shifting at 5500 rpm even though they actually shift at 5,000 rpm:
1-2 @ 46 mph and 3000 rpm in 2nd
2-3 @ 86 mph and 3600 rpm in 3rd
3-4 @ 133 mph and 3900 rpm in 4th

The Toyota Tundra 6-speed (3.33, 1.96, 1.35, 1.00, 0.73, 0.59) with the same axle ratio, shift point and tire diameter:
1-2 @ 41 mph and 3400 rpm in 2nd
2-3 @ 67 mph and 3800 rpm in 3rd
3-4 @ 97 mph and 4100 rpm in 4th
4-5 @ 132 mph and 4050 rpm in 5th
5-6 @ 180 mph and 4500 rpm in 6th

The GM 4L80 (3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.70) with the same values:
1-2 @ 43 mph and 3000 rpm in 2nd
2-3 @ 81 mph and 3400 rpm in 3rd
3-4 @ 132 mph and 3900 rpm in 4th

Yea, I'm pretty happy with the 6R80. It's 1-2 could be spaced a bit better I suppose, but it's a best in class transmission with best in class gear spacing. I'm happy with best in class.

Hum....well i'm gunna disagree...I've had an 05 xlt and a 07 lariat....both equally as comfy....and i'd take an all day trip in either one...actually i have in both. I've put on 24000 miles on the 07 in the first year of owning it....and i couldn't be happier (except that the heated seats turn off after ten minutes....lame)

The 6spd in my 08 Expy makes this a far superior vehicle to the 02 Expy I had. The 02 had the 4.6 230 hp with with the 4 spd and My 08 combined with 300 hp 5.4 and the 6spd gets better mpg's city and hwy and can tow more. The 08 downshifts less on the hwy, and takes less effort to get moving in town. More power, better trans, and both had the 3.31 axle. In the end it will come down to how heavy a foot you have.

Guess it shows how people are all built different and like different things huh? ..Now the seats in my 05 F250 Scab XLT I love..fit me perfect. I'm in sales for equipment so between the 2 trucks I drive about 60K a year.I sure will agree with you on that heated seat switch that turns off in ten minutes..It should just have a lower setting that you can leave it on..Glad you like your 150s..Hope you enjoy them for years to come..
