I am not sure how the guages in the '08's work, but in the past, Ford's guages were basically glorified idiot lights that didn't acually tell you what temp the engine was. They wouldn't really warn you of a problem until it was too late. I guess you would be able to tell if the cooling fan is engaging more with the vents covered though.

changed to the new airdam 2 weeks ago. 1.7 more per gal, put a bed cover on the logn bed and tried your fix yesterday, went for a test run of 150 miles. Hand cal, with paper and pencil up from 17.4 to 20 .1 at 65 mph, only have 2300 on this one (08 6.4l) but I have seen a big improvement.

I would if I knew how. I think the easiest way, is to create a gallery in your user cp.

i have an08 f350 cc 4wd 3.73 6.4l. usually got 10-12 mpg around town, and 14.5 highway at 68mph. recently i put on the job 2 air dam. i also made inserts to block the vertical grill slots. i also made inserts forthe bumper, blocking opening from the inner edge of the drivinglight to about 1 inch in from the outer edge of the license plate, leaving a narrow slot above the plate. i other thing i have done is switched to mobil delvac 1 5w-40 esp.

i have taken numerous trips to the poconos in pensytaking same exact route all the time. round trip in town and highway i would reset mpg meter, never got better than 13.8mpg round trip. now with front end modifications i got 16.4 mpg round trip. hope to see similar numbers on future trips. at one point highway, 68mph flat road got 20.3 mpg. for about 5miles. was usually at 17.8 till i hit mountains. i am quite happy.

ps no change in temp guage or fan coming on

So how do you hand calc. the mpg without having to fill up every time and hence knowing how much fuel you have used?

Has anyone tried using a bug shield on these trucks to see if that does anything to the mpg? I was going to put one on but with price of fuel these days any loss of mileage adds up real quick.

I have the Ford bug deflector. Didn't seem to make any MPG difference, good or bad.

Wow, it seems like these small mods to the front is really making a difference, someone should email Ford and tell them about what you all are doing and the gains in MPGs you guys are seeing, maybe they'll listen and try to incorporate something similar to what you all are doing.
