Sure you can put one in, but in general anything with a gooseneck on it is out of the F-150’s league anyways. You biggest problem will be cab clearance, with such a short bed chances are very good you’ll have trailer cab clearance issues.

You need to look very close at the clearence issue as these models are not made to use with a 5th wheel unless specificlly equipped with a sliding mount, the 5th wheel is short in the cab area, light weight and a driver who pays attention on it's use.
As for the reply about having one on an 01, 8000 lbs is way over the weight limit of a super crew.
The gross combined weight of the best equipped super crew is only about 12,000 lbs.
If the truck weighs 6000 with driver and passenger and nothing in the bed, that only leaves another 6000 left to tow, so 8000 is foolish if that much was towed even though the truck could pull it..
There are many factors to consider when towing not just hearing the truck can tow some amount of weight.
Never take a trailer dealer at his word on how much you can tow. Plain fact is they don't know what your truck can legally and safely pull.

if you look in your owners manual for a 2001 supercrew ford states that the truck if equipped will safely tow 8000 lbs. i know of many ppl that use these truck to tow horses and construction equipment .

Best people to ask about this is a trailer dealer. A good trailer dealer that stands behind what he sells. They do this all the time and know what you can and can't do. Imo

i just got a flip up ball from fleet farm for about 160 and it comes with instructions for as far as building the H frame or you can use rails i believe, i did the h frame. i had to take the plasma and hack out one of the support rails for the box but not a big deal cuz the frame for the ball hitch took its place. i actually just loaded up a mid 80s ex cop car thats complete and then i stacked a 77 f150 with no engine or tranny half way on top of it and will be taking it in to the junkyard wednesday hopefully.
