This V-10 is too quiet.

And it's also so smooth I have to always look at the tach. when pulling out so I don't stall it. It's 2008 F-250 S/C. I would like to have it a little louder so I can at least hear it. I don't want to do a whole new exhaust or remove or gut the cat's. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Best, CB

Roll down the window?

You could swap mufflers, I suppose.

I guess your question means you must have a standard transmission? Surely stalling isn't a problem with an automatic. And if you do have a manual, you'll learn to judge the rpm by the vibrations on the gearshift knob....

Put headers on it, that way you'll hear it running

But yeah, when I got my '01, it took a while to get used to it.

Try a flowmaster. 3" in and out, then step it to a 4" tail. Not overly load but a decent tone for a v-10. I noticed a difference in my 99 when I got rid of the stock muffler. I just used a 4" tail for a deisel, so no shop required.

Thank you Problemchild, When you say Flowmaster is that what many on this site mean when they refer to an FM70?

Sorry Charlie, I am new here, so I have no clue what they are talking about with the FM70? I used a 40 series, center inlet, off set outlet. If I had to do it again I'd go with a off set/ off set. And try to get the muffler horizontal. Mine is kinda vertical, and easy to see since I have a lift. Then use a 3" to 4" , and then the 4" diesel tail pipe.
Sorry if I . Didn't mean to.

dkf is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
There really isn't a need to add a larger tailpipe, but if you want you can. An FM70 3" dual opposite offset is a good replacement for the stock muffler. A longer magnaflow muffler will work well also. Neither of those mufflers will add tons of sound though.

Thanks dkf, but what is a FM70? Is that a Flowmaster?

Flowmaster 70 series Big Block 2 Muffler. Link to pic of an FM70 and cat-back kit. http://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gall...166960&width=0 They are a little louder than stock but overall a mild muffler and work well. I welded a chamber shut on mine to give more sound.

Thanks dkf, I've read your post about that. I notice the date on the box was 99-04. I'll call Flowmaster for 2008 applications.
