Best, CB
Heres a link to a kit for the 08', I think they just came out with it because I've never seen it for the 08' before. 2008 Ford Truck F250 / F350 5.4L / 6.8L [17446] : Flowmaster Inc. Exhaust Shop, Love That Sound!

The '08 exhaust is completely different than the '05-'07 exhaust. Everything after the manifolds is redesigned. All of the hangers and their positions are different.

It is VERY quiet, too quiet. There is a resonator after the muffler that contributes further to reducing noise. That combined with the new air intake tube make it super quiet once underway. (pics of '08 exhaust in my gallery)

I believe that some power has been lost at WOT due to a more restictive muffler and the resonator and possible pressure differences in the air intake. This is my seat of the pants impression based on comparing it to my '05. The '05 had better throttle response (in my opinion), had a very nice growl to the exhaust at idle and and even better sound at WOT (sure did heat tick for a long time when shut down though).

The '08 exhaust looks like it should flow better. Perhaps the NVH engineers got to it after it was already desiged.

The '08s two huge catalytic converters absorb some noise too, I'm sure. They will make choosing a new muffler for these trucks a challenge.

I've been waiting for an aftermarket cat back system, but nothing for the '08s yet. I would rather have a cat back so that the resonator would be eliminated. I may have to find a quality exhaust shop that can eliminate the resonator by welding in a piece of stainless tubing in its place. Most of the work I've seen from this area though is crappy with mud dawber looking welds.

Dang, DKF, didn't see that before posting. I gotta have stainless though, because I take my boat to salt water 6 or 8 times a year.

Cut and paste from Flowmaster...

"The S.O.S. system is for the person who wants a subdued, but custom look, with all the benefits of a Flowmaster exhaust system. These systems feature mandrel bent 16 gauge aluminized steel tubing, either weld-on or flanged inlet pipe/pipes, specially tuned muffler, clamps, hangers and stainless steel exhaust tip exiting in the factory location out the side behind the rear tire of the vehicle."

I hear ya on the saltwater. The only salt my truck sees is during the winter. Going with a stainless system for your application is a good idea. I'd send Magnaflow and e-mail or two and maybe put some pressure on them to make a cat-back for the SD gassers. Magnaflow makes a great product. BTW thanks for posting pics of your 08', I like seeing whats under the hood and under the truck. I'm not a fan of the huge mufflers, cats and resonator, noise cancelling intakes but, I guess the majority of buyers like a super quiet truck. Guess I'm an oddball.

Well, since Flowmaster has engineered a system now, it will be easier for the other manufacturers to copy the dimensions.

We have the Magnaflow cat back on son's V6 Fusion. That is by far the best sounding exhaust I've ever heard on a V6. The quality of the system is fisrst rate too. Magnaflow would be my first choice if or when they come out with one for the '08 trucks.

This Magnaflow gives me a good sound with a Magnaflow cat.

Is a 3" tail pipe big enough for the V10? I thought that I read where the 05-07s had a 3.5".

A 3" is big enough, especially when you ditch the factory muffler and resonator. All the 05'up gassers I saw had a tailpipe that shure didn't look like 3.5" although some guys here said they have 3.5" tailpipes on their 05'up SD.

For the $$$ Flowmaster makes a good cat-back. Let us know how you like it. I would suggest buying better clamps or having the exhaust welded, the included clamps are junk.
