08 Hybrid oil filter

How do you remove the oil filter? Changed a lot of oil filters but not sure on this one. Do you drain it 7 than twist it of by hand or tool?

It is a cartrage type paper filter.need filter tool to get off.Oil and filter change due every 10k.It will drain down.Check your a/c filter every 15k.It is in the back on the d side.remove little panel and check it out.Keeps the batteries cool.

gjrock is correct.. you simply unscrew the assembly, then remove the paper cartridge.. install the new (along with new o-rings) and screw the assembly back into place. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the assembly you can remove to drain it (to make it less messy), but this isn't necessary.

There are special sockets you can purchase for this (if you plan on changing your own oil regularly you might want to invest in this), and I highly recommend using this being it's a plastic housing, but I've had luck in the past using a large pair of channel-locks.

But like I said.. it IS plastic and breaks quite easily, so if you do try channel-locks be very, very, VERY careful. Also on reinstallation, it doesn't have to be torqued super tight.. just tighten it by hand and give it another quick 'nudge' with the tool.

That filter housing CAN be removed by hand if you really put some arm into it. I've never used a filter wrench on it because none of mine fit the housing.

The a/c filter is supposed to be checked at 10k and changed no more than every 20k. At least on the '05 and '06 models.
